The great thing about a TV show like Gossip Girl, where most of its cast are Millennials, is that we get all this behind-the-scenes access. The wrap party was no different: Blake Lively made sure to document all the fun — including a food fight with the cake — via twitpics for fans to feel like they were part of the final celebration.
Of course, a wrap party means that they’re done filming, which is hard to wrap our heads around. It totally slipped our minds that Gossip Girl‘s final season is only ten episodes long, with the series finale — revealing Gossip Girl’s identity — to air on December 10th. That makes it even more bittersweet to look at these photos, of both the more intimate cast party and then the larger party with fans of the show.
What I love about these photos is that they provide a sweet little narrative.
It looks like the cast held their private party on-set; is it me, or are those the stairs of the Waldorf penthouse behind Chace Crawford? Of course, the most important part of this photo is Chace getting smeared with cake. There’s no explanation for how the food fight started, or why Chace seems to be the one who got hit the most. (Though you’ll notice some frosting on the other guests in later photos.)
Who wants some cake? Chase wrote on his Facebook when posting this pic.
Penn Badgley and Michelle Trachtenberg got in on some of the cake action as well.
Blake Lively is the most obviously emotional of the bunch: Most of the photos are hers, and her expression here — standing over Gossip Girl cupcakes — is adorable.
Aww, they lined up everyone’s chairs to say goodbye to the characters they’ve played for six years.
Then everyone went to get cleaned up for their big night out on the town. Blake snapped this shot of Ed Westwick lounging around, looking like he doesn’t want to leave.
But he and Chace cleaned up for the official wrap party, where it looks as if old episodes were screening and I assume fans found their way to the soiree.
Eric and Li’l J, reunited! Connor Paolo and Taylor Momsen mug for the camera.
Leighton Meester all dolled up at the glitzy party… though personally I preferred the shot of her at top sticking her tongue out.
Let’s not forget that Blake, Penn, and Chace have all poked fun at Gossip Girl over the last year, no doubt feeling that they’re allowed to now that the show is mere episodes away from the end. But any six-year job will get you down, and it’s clear from these wrap party photos that they did love their time together and they’ll be sad to be parted.
At least, til the Gossip Girl reboot in 2022, when they come back to play older versions of themselves in supporting roles to the hot new Upper East Siders.
