Sometimes I get the impression that Chelsea Handler peaked in 7th grade. That while all the other girls spend the majority of their time worrying about their bodies and their friends and everything else a 13-year-old worries about, she only worried about targeting her next punch line. Between all her zingers and retorts, she definitely ruled the social scene.
And then other people grew up and moved on and Chelsea still relied on that same humor for the next 40 years.
For example, fat jokes in middle school could be very funny. Fat jokes in high school got a little less funny. And by the time you entered adulthood, they lost most of their humor. Human beings tend to be ridiculous and their weight’s usually the least insane thing about them. So while it’s an incredibly easy joke to make, it’s not exactly the cleverest joke.
However Chelsea Handler proved that she still found them hilarious last night when she used an interview with Miley Cyrus to make fun of Honey Boo Boo’s weight.
The interview started off normally enough. You know, Miley Cyrus talking about how she watches Honey Boo Boo in her home cinema. You know, normal run-of-the-mill-celebrity banter about home cinemas.
And then as Miley spoke, Honey Boo Boo made an actual cameo on the stage. Except it wasn’t Honey Boo Boo, it was an overweight adult who dressed like her and did a poor impression of her. Yes, to add insult to injury she did a Jay-Leno-level impression of the kid.
As Faux Boo Boo left the stage, Miley commented that she’s like quadruple the size of the real child. Chelsea responded by saying, “that’s what she’s going to look like in two years.”
Really? Because of all the things you could tease 7-year-old Honey Boo Boo about, her size is the first thought to pop into you head? And I use the word tease because the kid’s only 7.
Not to mention the fact that she has Miley Cyrus sitting right in front of her. The same Miley Cyrus who used Twitter yesterday to share a pantless photos of herself. There’s so much material in Miley Cyrus herself that I just find it a shame that she had to resort to fat shaming a second grader to get laughs.
