Here at Crushable, we’re always excited to see celebrities graduating from high school, since often one’s schooling can fall by the wayside when these crazy-talented young stars catapult to fame. We’ve cheered on Dakota Fanning in her cap and gown, and Teen Mom‘s Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra. But we’re especially excited to hear that 25-year-old rapper Drake has officially received his diploma—not least because he sounded so psyched when he announced the news yesterday! He tweeted,
97% on my final exam. 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school!
Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!! OVO SOUND
Aww, Drizzy, we’re so proud of you. Before today, I actually didn’t realize that he’d never gotten around to getting his diploma, though I guess it’s not surprising. Back when he went by Aubrey Graham, he started on Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001 (when he was 15) and continued on as a regular til 2009. Even though he spent all his time on the set of a high school, I’m not surprised that he didn’t have time to complete his studies. Then after 2009, of course, Drake was born. And really, who wants to get your GED when you’re performing sold-out tours and fending off rumors that you’re dating Rihanna?
Drake shouldn’t be ashamed of getting his diploma late, because it’s not as if his TV alter ego Jimmy Brooks did much better. Although he started the series off (in 2001) as an 8th-grader, the whole getting-shot thing kinda derails his studies for a few years. There’s the physical therapy, wondering if he wants to be an artist instead of a rapper, and stealing his dad’s money to do a radical stem-cell surgery in Amsterdam. Finally, walking on crutches, he graduates with Degrassi’s class of 2007.
We don’t know what inspired Drake to finally finish those courses, but we’re really glad he did.
