Has Anyone Else Noticed That Kristen Stewart And Jennifer Lawrence Have The Same Career?

Picture this. An up-and-coming actress gets cast to play the lead in the movie adaptation of a beloved book series. Before the movie even hits the big screen, rabid fans are analyzing everything about her to determine if she’s really the best fit for the role. After the movie premieres, she’s a national icon — beloved by all, envied by many.

In an attempt not to get typecast as the tragic heroic figure in a teenage drama, she seeks out more artistically challenging films to do in between movie installments — making her a critical darling as well as a mainstream movie star.

Who am I describing? (And don’t cheat by referring back to the title of this post!)

If you guessed Jennifer Lawrence OR Kristen Stewart, you’re right!  (However if you guessed anyone else you’re wrong and you should probably try to improve your context clues skills.)

Both actresses rose to fame for playing heroines. Both actresses are beloved by fans and both actresses are talented enough to have careers long after their work on The Hunger Games and Twilight ends. And both actresses starred in critically-acclaimed films — On the Road and The Silver Linings Playbook – aside from their blockbuster franchises this year.

But only one made our 25 Crushable Girls Under 25 list.

This wasn’t an oversight and this wasn’t a mistake, we purposefully didn’t choose Kristen Stewart to be on our list. She’s simply not crushable. She may be a talented actress and she may be getting unfairly crucified for a cheating scandal, but that doesn’t mean she’s someone who we admire.

Twilight’s not a trilogy! :p Agree with the rest… and Kristen Stewart is just not a good actress, but I am actually quite a fan of hers. I guess it’s a little impressive that everyone enjoys watching her even though she’s…not really a very good actor. I’m hoping she’ll get better as she goes, though!

    • Jenni

Fixed! I think if she really does more challenging movies post Twilight, she could improve a lot.

    • photoshopped pr

I truly hope for your sake, Ms. Maier, that you are never the subject of a witch hunt.

    • Jenni

      I truly hope the same!

    • photoshopped pr

But if you give, someday you will most likely get, if you haven’t already received. You most likely have, and just don’t know it.

I’m not trying to be disparaging, but I am not sure what your job title is: reporter? Journalist? Gossip?

If your job includes any sort of investigative research, you must have uncovered how bogus the “cheating” pics of Kristen Stewart really are.

If you’re a gossip, then onward and upward, my dear! Jump on the bandwagon, and ride it out as long as you can. However, be forewarned: this will come back to you in the end.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

      She’s a gossip. A Louella Parsons Lite!

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Jenni is just a mediocre writer. Takes one to know one eh. So she thinks.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

If you study some challenging materials you may improve as a writer. Get busy. Kristen is.

    • Jenni

What would you recommend? Eat, Pray, Love? I’ve heard that’s a good place to start for a writer looking to challenge herself.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I’m hard on you because I think you are a whole lot better than this. You broke that scandal wide open with a little help from core people. We wouldn’t have been there is it weren’t for you and the way you conduct yourself with the comments. You beat the shit out of Nick Frenkel, Rob’s manager, that slimy snake. and Gossip Cop. The whole scandal crashed and burned because of you. I am thinking you don’t even know you did it! I am telling you you did do it. Now run with it. Get out of the fucking Dominating Discourse of ping-pong. Surely you have aspirations higher than crushable. You do, don’t you?

    • photoshopped pr

      Here, Here!

    • photoshopped pr

Don’t get touchy-feely. Just get smart.

    • NIA

I don’t think that any film Kristen chooses will encourage her to grow as an actress if people keep lauding her for her mediocre performances in and out of Twilight. Also, Jennifer Lawrence has already distinguished her career by being nominated for an Oscar for her breakthrough performance in Winter’s Bone before being known as Katniss Everdeen. Just because they both happened to star in the film adaptations of a beloved book series doesn’t make their careers similar, not to mention that Jennifer has acting range and Kristen simply doesn’t.

    • Lila

She’s supposedly really good in On the Road, at least according to a lot of the critics…even some of them who aren’t normally fans of her acting…I think she’s usually mediocre..not as bad as some people claim, not as good as others claim. Anyway, I’m seeing the movie because of the delicious Garrett Hedlund :) I’m meh on her, but I think it sucks that she’s been crucified for months on end for making a shitty decision (if it wasn’t some grand stunt queen move, which it very well may be). There are ramifications, but it’s gone on way too long now. I seriously don’t remember Jude Law or Russell Crowe getting half the shit she did. So I hope her career is fine…plus, it would be terribly amusing to see the reactions of some of the people online who brayed for her blood.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks
  • Lila

I love Jennifer Lawrence and I am meh on Kristen Stewart. However, I don’t really get the point of articles like this. Why is it always women pitted against each other? Why not compare Andrew Garfield (franchise, critical darling) to Rob Pattinson (franchise), etc.? Why compare them at all?

    • Jenni

Because we made Jennifer Lawrence #1 on our 25 Crushable Girls under 25 List that launched today and we didn’t include K.Stew at all…just wanted to explain the reasoning behind that decision.

    • photoshopped pr

What, exactly, is your explanation – insufficient perkiness on the part of Kristen Stewart?

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I agree that Lawrence is the superior actress at this point in time. But comparing them is so cliche and gauche.

    • Jenni

Well, that was my screenname in middle school: clicheandgauche45

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

LOL! Nice joining technique. Works with schizophrenics also in treatment. Nice going!

    • Jenni

Thanks! As someone in 14 kinds of treatment, I appreciate you noticing that.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

      It’s effective.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Exactly why compare at all? Joaquin Phoenix said the same about the Oscars. And you know the one “who wears this dress better x or y?

The reason is that all of these people are stuck fast in the classical Hegelian Dominating Discourse (Foucult: The Order of Things if you do’t know what I am talking – writing – about) which assumes a linear, progressive, historical world. It isn’t. The world is Event driven, discontinuous, Even this film reviewer is starting to get it on non-linear http://www.cinemadiscourse.com/2012/09/22/midnight-in-paris/ If you read Foucault carefully, this Discourse is fundamentally structured into oppositional language. A perpetual game of ping-pong. He said, she said. Jenni is stuck in this and probably will never get out of it. It is hard to leave it. All our education has been to embed this Discourse in our minds and we have spent a lifetime and untold thousands becoming adepts at it. BEING RIGHT BY GOD! It is a Discourse that aims to DOMINATE.

Did you want to know this much. As long as we stay in this Discourse, it will continue.

  • Ron

seriously i don’t see her cheating scandal going away any time soon due to the way some people are trying to brush it off as normal.Lets just say it like it is and it will pass. She has to get used to it cuz it was her decision, and stop giving answers like me and rob are fine.Men see thru that and most of her adoring fans are guys.

    • ss

Unfortunately, cheating is normal per say, well…now. Not because it’s right, but because it’s such a common thing to happen. With that saying, cheating is wrong period. And I thought, that the majority of her fans are women? Not saying she doesn’t have any male fans at all, but her fanbase seems to be mostly females. When she said “me and Rob are fine”, was she talking their personal relationship? Or was she talking about, their professional relationship, regarding upcoming BD2 promos?? I am just wondering, because I don’t know.

This article is bull, and she does smile and you know nothing about her so step off your pedalstal. Search her on google images and I bet you 1 million bucks that u will find pictures of her smiling. People like you should not be allowed on the web. so move along you sheep.

    • Jen

it doesnt even seem like this article is about her not smiling? she just isnt as good of an actress as jennifer. though, honestly.. twilight was a horribad book, even compared to the hunger games. when you can only work with what youre given…

  • lillicat

Hi Jenni: I have to say I was disappointed that Kris was left out of your list,. It just seems like another example of Kris being unfairly “blacklisted” by the media. You know, even Rob has said how unfair the media is to Kris: “she can smile all day long, but they only publish the photos of her unsmiling”. I am totally understanding her attitude. She has been trashed every way by the media, hounded without mercy, even to the point of fearing for her life, called every hateful name known to mankind even before this so-called scandal for just loving and being loved by Rob Pattinson. She seems so vunerable now. In the end, I think she is a good actress compared to some others in her generation. I used to think she could care less, but when you are snubbed over and over it has to take a toll. I think she acts with her soul, not just her face. I have no problem with any of the people you picked for your list. I am unfamiliar with many of them, and I like JL as an actress also. But in the end, I will support Kris by seeing everything she makes.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

JLo is on that list. She was very good with her one with Oliver Stone. Cloned since then. good no more. Jenni is not going to give her a break. Jenni likes actors with toolkits on their belt.

    • curioushairedgal

This is so funny! A break? There were like 8 comments on that crushable list so now by including K here through excluding her form the list the things are bound to heat up! …an active effort to look like they’re appreciative of fame and good fortune….yeah, all that money and not even a smile, unforgivable!

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Heat up the hits boyz! And girlz!

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

If you hadn’t already has so many posts on Kristen it probably wouldn’t have been an issue. It was nice bait and we all took it. The more hits in the comments, the better you look to your boss. Crushable is just another gossip sheet albeit a nicer one.

    • Jenni

We’re actually not a gossip sheet. According to anonymous sources, we’re America’s #1 source for investigative journalism.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

You’ve got to be kidding. My standard for investigative journalism is I. F. Stone!

    • Jenni

I.F Stone’s okay. But if we’re really going to talk about investigative journalism, I would say Wikipedia is the standard.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I.F. Stone put out a weekly newspaper for a long time and right through the McCarthy era when it was dangerous for him to do so. Wiki is good, but it is online all the time, subject to revisions, not always accurate, but a good place to go for info. I am talking about someone with integrity, even when they might be wrong, still they won’t cave. There are really important things to write about. Tamira Thayne. Ai Wei Wei who holds off the entire Chinese govt with twitter, who is a big big conceptual artist who just opened at the Hirshhorn. Move up.

    • Jenni

Do you mean J.Law? Because I can assure J.Lo wasn’t even considered!

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I just responded to JL not thinking of Law or Lawrence as I was on disqus instead of coming here. Sorry.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Sorry my mistake. I picked that up on a comment without coming here. JL is Jennifer and she deserves it. But Hunger Games is a superb film, more so than the critics have acknowledged.

    • lillicat

What do you mean “toolkits on their belts”? Method??

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks
    • Jenni

While I knew people would be disappointed that we (and I do mean we, the entire Crushable staff works on this list as a team) left Kristen off, we just couldn’t fit everyone on the list. She’s not the only talent under 25 who didn’t make it!

    • lillicat

I understand that- still sad for her. She probably doesn’t care about that right now.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Jenni it wasn’t that. It was the fact that Kristen was used as comparison all the way through the article. You didn’t have to bring her into it at all. You knew if you did it was going to upset a whole lot of people but that’s what makes the merry-go-round twirl.

    • photoshopped pr

If Kristen were put into the 25 list, these posts would never have existed. Sigh . . .

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

It’s easy to see how one can slip into these little tricks to manipulate readers to increase hits. Any site with pop ups and ads is in biz. The better they do the more ads you have to flit over to read something. Quite awful. And it begins to make them obsolete. People want fast, and faster and fastest. Zepto seconds as Eric Packer calls them. TV is way too slow. Now I am finding comment boards way too slow. Yaaay for TWITTER! It’s fast. And you can do real damage with it! Ai Wei Wei is holding off the entire Chinese govt with it. It took us 2 months to crash this scandal. If we had gone on twitter in the beginning it would have happened much faster. The sites and comment boards are yesterday. Twitlonger fulfills the need for more words and instagram for pics. Twitpic also I think.

You can mobilize thousands of people fast to have a level playing field with the power/knowledge/capital Foucauldian Grid.

I love it! You will notice how robsessed is still stuck in she made a mistake. And Rob forgave her. And they will never catch up.

    • http://ninnelson.com/ gigi5

Kristen’s name makes you money. It must make you more money than any of the other names on your list of 25, otherwise you wouldn’t need her name in the headline.

    • Jenni

If you think it’s bad now, wait until we change our site name to KristenStewartProfits.Net/Everytimeweusehernamewemakeonebilliondollars

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Well why did you have to use her name over and over in the article so many times if she wasn’t even on the list. All you did was compare her to Jennifer Lawrence.

    • Jenni

Because every time we use her name, I get money deposited directly into my bank account. How many times must we go over how this blog works!?

    • http://ninnelson.com/ gigi5

You are being paid for being a bully.

    • Jenni

Did you know I get paid double on days when commenters accuse me of being a bully

    • http://ninnelson.com/ gigi5

Of course, I don’t really know your motivations.

I have no desire to censor you.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Not good enuf jenni. Zapping will get you nowhere where people are considered seriously for better things than crushable. http://materializmidialektik.wordpress.com/2012/09/17/slavoj-zizek-dont-worry-the-catastrophy-will-arrive/ Begin. You will love Zizek. It’s an interview, the way an interview should be. You can get in on the ground floor you know.

    • Jenni

You know what…I’m starting to suspect that you’re secretly Zizek’s publicist. True or false?

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Definitely a volunteer one. Also for Ai Wei Wei. http://parrhesiajournal.org/index.html A journal well worth reading online.

    • Petranella

just to fluff up a “rivalry”

    • Jenni

I never said they had a rivalry, I pointed out they had similar career trajectories. It’s not as if they were ever up for the same parts, fighting over the same guy or even in the same movies.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

C’mon. Don’t waffle. You are just spinning. Admit it here. It’s OK to say the truth.

    • Jenni

The truth is that I am Kristen Stewart. TWIST!

    • Jenni

Sometimes I get the feeling you just read the comments and not the article. Is this a semi-accurate feeling?

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

No I read the articles. They are “empty” of content and interesting in “intent”. Disclosure: I taught for Evelyn Wood when in grad school and developed her mini lesson.

    • Jenni

I just find it interesting that you spend so much time commenting on a site you find empty of content and run by a mediocre writer (who doesn’t even read Zizek!).

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I have a few friends on your site that I reply to using disqus. They like your site and I do too. Sometimes. Sorry you don’t read or see Zizek. He has great relevance for your work. Have you seen Sophie Fiennes (yes their sister) who has made a film on him that showed at TIFF and he answered questions afterwards to a big audience who went there just to see and hear him. He spoke to Occupy. And he does lots of interviews as well as writing major books on philosophy. He is not an armchair philosopher. He is fighting a battle to change the thinking of the world.

Do you not find that interesting?

    • Guest

I think both are up for the film based on a Styron book, supposedly.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

I heard that piece of gossip too. Read shit and process shit.

    • Petranella

I know but it does come across that way. It would make more sense if You compared your #1 pick with your #2 pick or something. But to compare your “winner” with someone not even on the list?!

    • Jenni

Because that conversation came up as we created the list and debated who should make it. Since we found the conversation about their similar careers so interesting, we thought we would share it with our readers. It was a far less sinister thought process than I think people would like to imagine.

    • Petranella

Then it would have made more sense as two separate articles.

    • Jenni

What do you mean? An article about Jennifer Lawrence’s career and an article about Kristen Stewart’s career?

    • Petranella

The 25 most Crushable Women is one article. The Jen Kris comparison/difference is another article entirely. If Kris is not even on your list of 25 most crushable actresses; it comes across as snarky to discuss her in that article. Just saying how it comes across and the readers obviously picked up on it.

    • Jenni

You know it was an entirely separate article right? Throughout the launch day we published several accompanying articles about the people featured on the list, including this one.

      http://crushable.com/entertainment/25-crushable-girls-under-25-for-2012/

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Yeh we profess to want world peace and we constantly pit 2 people against each other in competition contests. Prettiest lips, eyes, boobs, figure, hair, dress, whatever. In school Jules Henry the anthropologist in Culture Against Man says school is about teaching children to compete for grades with each other and to hate each other in socially acceptable ways. If you love your brother, you cannot go into business to compete with him. that has to be nipped in the bud eh.

    • Petranella

      yeah, my point exactly.

    • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

Well it all depends on whether you want jenni to be well informed or you don’t care about her. I care because she brought down the scandal and doesn’t even know the power of what she did.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

ALL of us are going to crush on someone who appears to be enjoying it? Maybe? Maybe not? Actually Stewart is not anxious to get enmeshed in the Foucauldian Grid of power/knowledge/capital and I think Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t thought much about it, that’s all. Kristen has the startling ability to come out with a post modern thought that breaks into the Dominating Discourse to smash through it, which leaves me astonished and amazed as I know she doesn’t read this stuff but has simply absorbed it into her being. BTW this is what DeLillo’s Cosmopolis is about, altho Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis scrubbed it all out. It is Nietzsche coming into his own at last. It is Zizek speaking to Occupy, and to the audience at Fiennes movie of him at TIFF. Zizek is the man and philosopher of the moment for us, as Plato was for his time. Kristen Stewart is simply on his wavelength without perhaps even knowing his name.

  • http://ninnelson.com/ gigi5

Come on, most of these comments are about Kristen. We wouldn’t even be reading Crushable without the articles on Kristen. Crushable is using her name to sell advertising on their blog.

  • Jen

I dunno. With how horrible Twilight, the book and the movies were… Is Kristen really a mediocre actor, or is it just a horrible series that had horrible writing? My friends who like her swear its just the writing. I cant remember seeing a movie she was really good in. I feel like Jennifer does good work, though the Hunger Games had more plot and philosophical/political undercurrents to it.
