Did you know there’s a new Alfred Hitchcock movie coming out?? It’s not a film by Alfred Hitchcock (which would be difficult), but about him, which is almost just as good. Starring a bulked up Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johansson, Hitchcock chronicles the great horror master’s quixotic quest to make Psycho from a book into a movie, which, believe it or not, was kind of difficult in 1960. (People found it scandalous; I wonder why?)
Judging from the two-minute-long trailer, Scarjo is flawless in the role of actress Janet Leigh, wearing her blonde curls and “large breasts” with grace. But it’s Hopkins and Mirren’s performances as Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville that look truly great. It’s always nice to get an intimate look at the man behind such a towering body of work, but I’m even more interested in learning about his lesser known wife, because how crazy must it have been to be married to him? Other familiar names in the film include the great Toni Collette and the okay Jessica Biel.
Hitchcock is scheduled to come out in the US this coming November, so we won’t have long to wait. I am keeping this as a strong option for a non-shitty mainstream movie to see with my family when I visit them for Thanksgiving.
