Look at our little Jennifer Lawrence! Going from not mentioning her romance with X-Men: First Class co-star Nicholas Hoult to chatting about him with Vogue UK. They’ve been dating for over a year, but this is the first time I can recall her actually acknowledging that she’s taken. And by such a sweet guy! In X-Men, Nicholas played the shy lab tech Hank who accidentally enhances his mutation and turns himself into a huge, furry blue creature. His attempts to romance Jen’s character Mystique also backfire, as she’s instead interested in Michael Fassbender‘s character Magneto.
But in real life, it sounds like Nicholas would win any contest hands-down. Jennifer’s Vogue UK cover comes out tomorrow, but the quote we were treated to pre-release is all about how her boyfriend is such a sex symbol. This quote came out of a discussion of her red carpet gowns — which admittedly are bangin’ — and how she could dress like a normal person and her man would still love her:
“Oh, he really doesn’t care. Like he’ll sometimes wear these white tennis shoes with jeans, then tuck his pants into his socks. He has absolutely no idea how good-looking he is. I think a lot of women and men hate me because of that.”
I feel like Jennifer Lawrence is one of those people who is just so enamored of her boyfriend that she’s convinced he is the embodiment of pure sex, no matter what anyone else says or thinks. I had a similar view of my college boyfriend; I would tell people how his hair, his eyes, his smile, his smell were just too good to be true and I couldn’t believe he’d chosen to be with me. My sister always laughed and said that it was a good thing she and I had very different taste in guys. After we broke up, I realized that yes, this guy was still very cute, but it was being in love with him that made me think he was the hottest guy in the universe.
Add that to the fact that it’s Jennifer freaking Lawrence, who’s just so charming and silly that you want to be her best friend. Of course we’ll believe her that Nicholas is ridiculously good-looking. (Even though in my mind he’ll always be the kid from About A Boy. I dunno, after seeing precocious British kids as youngsters, it’s difficult for me to get a sexual vibe from them when they’re older. Same deal with Freddie Highmore, who was a sweetie to interview but who I don’t think I’d put on my crush list.) All in all, I’m really glad for J. Law that she’s got a guy she’s obviously head over heels for.
And really, when you consider this photo of them hanging out on the night of her Oscar nominations, where she’s wearing flannel jammies and he’s inexplicably got roller skates on… you don’t doubt that they’re both low-key, and probably really happy with each other.
