Joss Whedon Reuniting With Nathan Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris, And Felicia Day Is The First Step Toward A Dr. Horrible Sequel

Dr. Horrible reunion Felicia Day Nathan Fillion Neil Patrick Harris Joss Whedon Maurissa Tancharoen Jed Whedon

Last night, writer/YouTube star Felicia Day posted this photo to Instagram and made geek hearts everywhere skip a beat like they’d been hit with the Freeze Ray: She met up with the rest of the cast of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog at Haunted Play, an interactive Halloween haunted house produced by her buddy Neil Patrick Harris. Left to right, you’re looking at the whole creative team and cast of this 2008 internet musical: Jed Whedon, Joss Whedon, Day, Nathan Fillion, NPH, and Maurissa Tancharoen.

It’s always exciting to see the casts of geek series still hanging out and having genuine affection for one another. Like when the Firefly cast (including Fillion) showed up for their tenth anniversary at San Diego Comic-Con in July, or the six-way bromance of The Avengers. I imagine you’re catching on to the common thread here, which is of course Whedon himself.

Now, one commenter on Whedonesque already made the joking-but-not-really statement we’re all thinking: See, they can all find time to get together…so when do we get #2?? LOL :D Whenever the three stars and/or Whedon are asked about the possibility of a sequel, the answer is always the same: Everyone’s so damn busy! A year ago, Whedon summed up their progress as “We get together at Christmas and family occasions, and then play each other our partial songs and go, ‘Yup, that’s still exactly as it was the last time we played it. We’re great.’ It’s bad.” Since then, he’s been able to update us that they spent the summer “getting unstuck” and that everyone is onboard.

Which is why I’m doubly excited to see them all hanging out in LA, staying involved in each other’s lives. For all we know, before the show they had some impromptu jam session where they went over where Dr. Horrible, Captain Hammer, and Penny (Whedon joked in his Reddit AMA, “I don’t want to say ‘decomposing’…”) are now. Hey, a girl can daydream.
