Azealia Banks is back with a new music video, and this one gives her the sophisticated black and white treatment as she shows her love for her hometown, New York City.
Taken from her recent mix tape Fantasea, the track forgoes the bubbly beat of hit “212″ for a smoother hybrid of dance and R&B. Azealia doesn’t goof off much here, but walks around New York and dances on a rooftop in a midriff-baring top and one of those Hasidic Jew hats that only look good on very cool people, as if to announce her sexy side to the world. Or rather, a more grown-up sexy side, since it’s not like she wasn’t sexy before.
It’s cool to watch this and realize how versatile Azealia is, but I do wish she’d included more rapping, because her rapping is hilarious and great. I also wish the video had not announced itself as “a film” at the beginning, because that’s a little more self-serious than I’d like to see her get. But self-serious or not, she is one talented young lady, and I can’t wait to see where she goes next.
