SNL: Dear Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Please Be In The Magic Mike Sequel

I don’t want to get my hopes up too high, because I’ve been burned before, but this season of Saturday Night Live is actually pretty awesome so far. Last night’s episode was hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with musical guest Mumford and Sons, and almost every single sketch had at least one or two chuckle-worthy moments.

The first one was JGL’s bizarrely short monologue, where he made one joke about the younger version of Bruce Willis being Ashton Kutcher, and then immediately stripped off his clothes and started gyrating his body in ways that Hulu deemed inappropriate. Seriously, they didn’t even post the monologue. Not that I’m complaining! I love me some pelvic thrusts, and this monologue had an average of 42.8 a second, so.

Also awesome was Joseph’s fake commercial for Tres Equis, a beer created by the son of the most interesting man in the world, who created the Dos Equis beer. You know, that guy from all the memes who says, “I don’t always drink beer, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis.” The idea was that JGL was this 30-year old loser who wasn’t really good at anything and mooched off his dad, played by a white-bearded Jason Sudeikis. I thought it was awesome, and also successfully proved that, like everyone, Joseph looks spectacularly douche-y with that kind of facial hair.

And of course, with the election around the corner,it’s time for SNL to start getting a extra political, which they did with a hilarious spoof commercial on the Undecided Voter, who still needs some questions answered. Questions like, “When are the elections, and what are the names of the people running? Be specific.” A nice riff on politics in general that I think can be appreciated bipartisinally…yup, that’s a word.

And finally, we had to throw Joseph Gordon-Levitt in drag and have a musical number. Because those two things are just two perfect to be ignored. Meet Evelyn, the daughter of Fred Armisen and Kate McKinnon. You’re gonna love her.

Other highlights were a tampon designed by white male Republicans, Taran Killam humping Kenan Thompson as a ‘hypnotized’ female T-Rex in his underwear, and Jay Pharoah as Michael Strahan. Actually Jay Pharoah as anybody. I’m glad he’s finally coming into his own.
