Justin Timberlake is one of those people whom the title “performer” perfectly describes: He started his career in cheesy ’90s boy band *NSYNC, then while most of his bandmates faded into obscurity he slid into a successful solo career. Then he made himself a legitimate actor by being very selective with movie roles and poking fun at himself on SNL. But as much of a quadruple (quintuple?) threat as he is, it’s interesting that he seems to need to take on his various projects one at a time.
Whereas other celebrities are in the studio recording their next album while also starring on a TV show or splitting time between the red carpet and the tour bus, JT comes across as very singleminded. With his movie Trouble With the Curve coming out tomorrow, of course people had to ask if he’s gonna be putting out another album anytime soon. After all, it’s been six years since SexyBack! But Justin was rather vague, telling the media, “For me, personally, when I do sit down and decide to do it, it’s just a special thing. I don’t know that I can pump [an album] out every year.”
While we agree that JT shouldn’t attach himself to awful Auto-Tuned singles just to get on the Billboard Top 100, we still miss his goofy, sexy, often outrageous music. (Come on, you remember when “I’m bringing sexy back” were the most ludicrous lyrics you’d heard all year.) So, here are ten reasons why Justin should lend his lovely voice to more than just a rendition of “Closing Time” in Friends with Benefits.
