This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Jennifer Lawrence sing, but it’s definitely the most powerful—partly because it’s an eerie promotion for House at the End of the Street, but also because it’s the first time we’ve heard her sing on her own. She had an adorable singalong to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” in the 2008 indie “The Poker House,” but that was with co-star Chloe Moretz. Ditto her song from The Hunger Games, where she and Amandla Stenberg brought tears to our eyes with “Rue’s Lullaby.” So at this point, we’ve been ready to see Jen shine on her own.
Because House at the End of the Street is a horror movie, we don’t want to see too many trailers for fear of guessing why it is that Max Thieriot‘s character Ryan decides to live in the house where his parents were murdered. That’s why I really like this clip, of Jen’s character Elissa singing a lovely, lilting, almost folk-y song called “All You’ve Got To Do Is Fall In Love.” Cinema Blend puts it perfectly when they say that the song starts out delicate and then warps, mirroring how Elissa and Ryan experience the first blush of young love, but then it’s marred by whatever secret he’s hiding in that house.
And wow, Jen’s voice is legitimately lovely! Kinda husky, it definitely matches the tone but still sounds enough like her we know the sound wasn’t tampered with. Now I really want to see her sing “The Hanging Tree” in Mockingjay come 2014!
