Something I’ve always liked about celebrity couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield is how they know how to play the game with the media. They tried their best to keep their Amazing Spider-Man showmance secret, but once they started getting photographed and .giffed together, they never actually acknowledged it but just kept on with what they were doing. In their endless dual interviews for Spider-Man, they avoided relationship questions without looking like total idiots. And now we have this story from the weekend of how they dealt with paparazzi in a very classy way.
Emma and Andrew were eating at a restaurant in New York City’s East Village when they noticed the photogs waiting to catch a shot of them chowing down or maybe playing footsie. So they came outside—not to pull an Alec Baldwin or Justin Bieber and wreck somebody’s camera, but to take advantage of the attention and turn it toward charities. They wrote out this message on paper bags they held in front of their faces:
We just found out that there were paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. So… why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it?
Have a great day!
The pleasant sign-off just elevated this to even classier.
What’s funny is seeing the Redditors in the original thread try to figure out who the couple are. At first they thought they were just normal folks (since it was posted in r/pics), then some people guessed Psych couple James Roday and Maggie Lawson, or old Doctor Who cast members David Tennant and Billie Piper. But nope, it’s our favorite webslinger and his adorable girlfriend.
I have to second Redditor heyjustsayin, who pointed out, Dude, if all celebrities did this, it would totally and completely change the face of the paparazzi, TMZ, tabloids, etc…entirely. Imagine. Whoa.
