The Daily WTF: Mitt Romney Chose Snooki Over Honey Boo Boo

Politicians say the darndest things. For some reason, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was asked some really strange questions on Live! With Kelly and Michael, and one of them was which reality star he preferred: Snooki or Honey Boo Boo. Proving once again that his finger isn’t quite on the pulse of society, Mitt responded:

“I’m kind of a Snooki fan. Look how tiny she’s gotten. She’s lost weight. She’s energetic. Just her spark-plug personality is kind of fun.”

There are so many things in that sentence that need to be addressed that I almost don’t know where to start. First of all, Snooki is losing weight because she just had a baby. Probably not the right move to characterize that as her getting tiny. Second of all, choosing Snooki over Honey Boo Boo is clearly the wrong choice. Jersey Shore, while amazing, is pretty much at the end of its run, while Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is just now coming into the full flush of its glory. If you really want to connect with young voters, you should try to stay ahead of the trends, young Mittsworth.

Thirdly, after building up this persona for yourself in the media as someone who takes a hard line on irresponsibility, are you really gonna say you prefer an unwed, alcoholic, reality-star mother who has drunkenly made out with her fellow female co-stars and urinated in public on national television to a 7-year old beauty queen? Granted, I take no exception to any of that, but Mitt tends to be slightly (ha!) more conservative than I, so I’m just looking out. Furthermore, Snooki identifies as a bisexual, a sexual orientation that I’m not 100% sure Mitt Romney even knows exists. She’s also been arrested twice, once for disorderly conduct, and once for colliding with a parked police car in Italy, while the only rule Honey Boo Boo has broken is the open container law for her Go-Go Juice.

Bottom line, I’m calling for more due dilligence from our elected public servants in keeping up with reality television. This ignorance is an abomination, and it will not stand.
