You recently shot the first episode of American Horror Story: Asylum. How is that going?
It is so fun, oh my gosh. I am a huge fan of the first season; it was just one of those offers that I got that I want to do this immediately, they don’t even have to pay me. And then I got an amazing co-star in Adam Levine; it was some of the most fun I’ve had on film. We play newlyweds who go to an insane asylum, and lots of craziness happens.
He as a person is just a wonderful human being. We had so much fun, we laughed on-set; we were doing some really wild crazy situations on the show. He’s a really good actor, I was really impressed. I was a big fan of his already, and doing this just made me appreciate him and how much of an artist he is.
I have to admit, I felt self-conscious asking a lot of questions about Channing because it probably gets annoying for you to talk about him. So, what do you want people to know about you?
I’m so happy and proud of my husband, but at the same time I am super passionate about acting. I love acting just as much as the next person; I want to be doing it for my whole life in different versions and different ways. My favorite thing about my career and what I want to do is that I like doing things all across the board. I hope to be an actress where someone [someday] says, “She got a wide, diverse career out of it.”
I like doing TV, I like doing film. There’s sort of this thing in Hollywood, certain no-nos—shows and networks you’re not supposed to do. I think that’s all bullshit. I think as long as you work hard at what you want to do, as long as you work hard at your craft, the cream rises to the top. I hope I get that challenge.
Working with animals is also a massive passion of mine. I’d like to be able to do more stuff like that and make more change in the animal industry and in how they’re treated. I’d like to one day have my own charity, get on the board with the government and create some better laws for the treatment of animals, especially in slaughterhouses. I’m a vegan, so I’d like to spread more awareness about food that we eat and what happens to animals in horrible farms. I know that’s such a large obstacle to tackle; maybe start to enforce new laws in ways that they have to be treated in factory farms. I think it’s completely ridiculous that we’ve had cameras undercover show abuse, they close down, and then they re-open the factory farm months later without telling anyone.
What’s your favorite movie to watch as a couple?
Chan and I can watch Bad Boys II ten times in a row and laugh every single time. That movie is hilarious. We fast-forward all the [other stuff] and just watch the scenes with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. We quote it on a daily basis.
