After an incredible match lasting almost five hours, tennis pro Andy Murray finally won the Grand Slam at the U.S. Open! I say “finally” because it’s been 76 years since a British man won a Grand Slam singles tournament, and because Murray is nearing the end of his career. His match against Novak Djokovic lasted five sets, with Murray winning the first two sets by a hair, then losing momentum for the next two sets, and finally drawing on a well of willpower and stamina to come back and capture the final set. Even just writing about it, it sounds thrilling!
But if, like me, you weren’t able to actually be at the stadium for this epic match, then join me in reliving it stroke-by-stroke with these fantastic photos. It’s long been a joke that tennis players have the best O-faces as they’re going for the ball, but Murray is quite the expressive chap all on his own. Not all of the pictures in this gallery look like sex faces; some bring to mind certain pop culture moments of the last few years. Regardless, you’ll be entertained and feel like you were right there to watch history get made.
