More than a few of my geeky guy friends — and if we’re being honest, girl friends — have developed massive crushes on Cobie Smulders since she played Agent Maria Hill in this summer’s superhero film The Avengers. I, of course, have been a fan of Cobie since I saw her dance to “Let’s Go To The Mall” on How I Met Your Mother‘s second season. So while this news may come as a devastating shock to my infatuated friends, I’m delighted to hear that Cobie finally tied the knot with fiance Taran Killam.
Cobie is fairly low-key about her love life, but she and Taran have been together for eight years. But we didn’t really learn who he was until Cobie unexpectedly got pregnant around HIMYM‘s fourth season, at the same time as co-star Alyson Hannigan. The show had a fun time alternately hiding and poking fun at their baby bumps, and that’s when we met Cobie’s partner Taran. Of course, he’s long been a writer (for All That in the ’90s) and actor; you can currently find him playing Brad Pitt or Ashton Kutcher on Saturday Night Live. He also pops onto HIMYM occasionally to play Barney and Marshall’s coworker Blauman.
According to People, the low-key nuptials took place at the Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort in Solvang, CA. Cobie’s gown was designed by Claire Pettibone; you can see a blurry shot of her in the dress as well as the runway version below. According to the official description, the gown is “beige cotton toile trimmed in French gold embroidery with velvet insets and cascading bustle.”
The couple’s three-year-old daughter Shaelyn Cado was there, of course, but that’s about all we get to know. Neither Taran nor Cobie have posted any Twitter updates or twitpics. (Consider also that all she would say about their engagement was, “That’s personal, but it was very romantic, I’ll tell you that much.”) But then again, that’s part of why we feel like this Hollywood marriage will actually last: They know what to keep private. Also, unlike their fellow weekend wedding-ers Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, they’ve been together for more than a year.
There’s only one way to celebrate this. I so hope someone bribed the band to play this at the reception.
