If Ireland Baldwin Isn’t Upset By Her Dad’s Infamous ‘Pig’ Voicemail, Should We Be?

Ireland Baldwin pig voicemail Alec Baldwin verbal abuseIt’s kinda cool to see celebrity kids hit that point of adolescence where they can comment on their famous parents via social media, because they’re self-aware enough to provide insight into Hollywood life, and usually they don’t have the same kind of publicist-mandated restraint as their folks. Case in point, Ireland Baldwin. Five years ago, when someone leaked that voicemail of her dad Alec Baldwin raging at her over the phone and calling her “a rude, thoughtless little pig,” we automatically cried “verbal abuse!” and felt sorry for the poor kid with the asshole father.

But then the New York Post‘s Page Six had the bright idea to ask Ireland herself how emotionally scarred she actually was by the incident and the voicemail getting leaked. And surprise surprise, she doesn’t give a shit.

“The only problem with that voice mail was that people made it out to be a way bigger deal than it was,” she told the reporter. “He’s said stuff like that before just because he’s frustrated. For me it was like, ‘OK, whatever.’ I called him back I was like, ‘Sorry Dad, I didn’t have my phone.’ That was it.”

They even joked back then about doing a parody video where she yells at him. That’s the kind of thing you would expect to see now, since Alec has poked fun at himself on 30 Rock for the past six seasons, and Ireland isn’t afraid of calling out Twitter haters. So, this bears the question: Ireland obviously didn’t think it was a huge deal for her dad to lose his temper, so does that mean we can finally forgive Alec for what he said? After all, it was a private voicemail that got leaked; it’s not as if he screamed at a reporter or co-star on the red carpet. If Ireland can come out of that situation well-adjusted, then we shouldn’t hold it against him. For all we know, one day she’ll get caught railing on someone in the same way.

Photo mostly unrelated, Ireland just takes great twitpics. Unless you want to draw some parallel between “pig” and “bacon.” She probably would.
