For A Good Time, Call… Introduced Me To Comedy’s Newest Power Couple

Seth Rogen Lauren Miller For A Good Time Call... Hollywood comedy power couple

You may have no idea who Lauren Miller is. (I didn’t.) You may have no idea Seth Rogen is married. (I didn’t.) Well today’s your lucky day, because I’m about to drop some knowledge bombs.

Seth Rogan is married, to Lauren Miller, who is one of the most talented up-and-coming comedic screenwriters and actors in the business. How have I come upon this incredible wealth of knowledge? Easily. Lauren Miller wrote and starred in a movie about phone sex. Interested yet?

Luckily, I’ve provided For A Good Time, Call…‘s red band trailer for your viewing pleasure.

So here’s the thing. For A Good Time, Call…, which premiered at Sundance, is crude, it’s sexual, it’s sometimes shocking, it’s hilarious. But it’s also charming, honest, surprising in the best way, heartwarming (yes, I said a movie about phone sex is heartwarming), and unlike any R-rated comedy you’ve seen before. And that’s because above all, it’s a story about an unexpected friendship between two girls — really, a platonic love story — that just happens to be set against a background of phone sex.

So who is Lauren Miller? Well, since the film is actually based on her long time friendship with fellow screenwriter Katie Anne Naylon, we can learn a little bit about her from her character… named Lauren. It would seem that in college she was fairly straight-laced — at least compared to Katie, who actually did work for a phone sex line her freshman year — but obviously, funny.

Which can only lead me to conclude that Lauren and Seth are a perfect match. Sure, I may have a nasty habit of extrapolating intimate — some might say creepy — details I couldn’t possibly know about a couple’s love life, but hey, we all have our hobbies. After my exhaustive research on my newest couple, I’m thinking not so much adorable witty banter like Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, but maximum friendship and comfort. You know, farting in front of each other, being goofy and weird, eating cereal naked, that sort of thing. A hypothesis which was all-but-confirmed when I found this little gem: When talking to Conan O’Brien last November, Seth admitted that he was so nervous after buying the engagement ring that he, essentially, couldn’t even wait for her to get dressed.

“She was in our closet changing, and she was literally only in her underpants, and her boobs were out I’d already kind of started, and I was like: ‘Oh man, her boobs are out! That’s not part of the plan! I didn’t picture it like this, and I know she didn’t picture it like this. No little girl is like, ‘It’ll happen in a closet with my tits out.’”

Told you.

Theory No. 2 about Lauren Miller and Seth Rogen: They are the prince and princess of Hollywood Comedy. I’m not sure who that makes the king and queen, but the point is I don’t think they’ve hit their stride yet. As proof, these two comedic forces were married this past October in a Jewish ceremony attended by some people you may have heard of in the comedy world—Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Judd Apatow, and Adam Sandler. (Reach way back into the recesses of your memory to recall a time when he was funny.)

And hello? Why wouldn’t they be. Seth Rogen is Seth Rogen — did you know he also wrote Superbad and Pineapple Express? — and Lauren (at least in terms of comedy and talent) is the female version. Not only was she bold enough to write a film about phone sex without a male lead, but she was even ballsier in producing it herself when she couldn’t find anyone to take it on. In short, I adore her, and can only hope that we see much more of Mrs. Rogan in the near future. (I guess Seth can come, too.)
