Update: Turns out LeAnn’s plenty stressed by some cyber-bullying from two Twitter followers! Read the whole story here.
LeAnn Rimes certainly has a good sense of timing: Her 30th birthday was on Tuesday, and the next day (yesterday) she checked herself into a treatment facility. But not for drugs or alcohol! Her rep is quick to clarify that LeAnn is spending a month at the center “to cope with anxiety and stress.” The rep added, “She is simply there to learn and develop coping mechanisms.” And of course our first reaction is, What stress? Scratch that—to be honest, the moment we heard whispers of “rehab,” we figured it was for astonishingly skinny frame, which we’ve idly worried about for about the last two years.
Everyone is so cheery about this, including LeAnn, who gave this statement to People:
“This is just a time for me to emotionally check out for a second and take care of myself and come back in 30 days as the best 30-year-old woman I can be. All the things in my life will be there when I get out, but you know what? I’m hoping they’re not going to affect me as much. I’ll have the tools to know how to deal with them.”
You could make the argument that she and her camp are heading off any speculation or rumors by being upfront about her reasons for taking time off, since we all would have found out eventually. But to me this smacks of an attempt to drum up publicity, especially coming so soon after her big 3-0 and with her and husband Eddie Cibrian both giving plenty of quotes. And in that case, then maybe LeAnn should take some time out of the public eye, because I worry she’s gotten addicted to attention.
Because really, what does she have to be stressed about? She had an affair with Eddie, breaking up both of their marriages, and actually married him. She’s now the cool stepmom to his kids, can interact with his ex-wife Brandi Glanville without Brandi clawing her eyes out, and looks pretty damn hot. So what coping mechanisms does she need? If it’s for people who have commented on her drastic weight loss, you can argue that she definitely draws more attention to her body than other celebrities who use Twitter. After all, she’s always posting twitpics of herself in bikinis, often shots that don’t even include her face.
Sure, she says in this pic that she’s showing off her new bag, but I’m getting kind of a Miley Cyrus vibe. Anyway, this isn’t about her body per se. It’s about LeAnn’s Twitter addiction. If she’s experiencing anxiety from fans’ criticisms, then perhaps she should work on not putting herself in situations where she’s inviting harassment. You know, like when she tweeted that photo of Eddie’s birthday cake with her and Eddie in bed. There’s sharing, and there’s oversharing. I feel like Twitter etiquette can be summed up the same way those annoying New York City subway warnings go: “…and it begins with you.”
I’ll be curious to see if part of LeAnn’s treatment is staying off Twitter. Her rep told People that she’ll be honoring her commitments to weekend concerts over the next month and will be checking back in with the center after each outing. So, let’s see if her twitpic count drastically drops while she’s learning her other “coping mechanisms.”
