Who ever thought that when unknowns Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan were matched up in 2006′s kinda-ludicrous-but-awesome-dancing flick Step Up, six years later he’d be the hottest new star and they’d be one of Hollywood’s more low-key and successful marriages? The two quietly started dating and actually waited several years before getting married. They got matching tattoos, but of a phrase from their vows instead of something dumb like each other’s names. Even with Channing becoming the unbelievable package of hot, a great dancer, and incredibly funny, there haven’t been any outlandish tabloid stories about their marriage being in trouble. And now they’ve taken on their greatest challenge: Acting together again.
The high school reunion movie 10 Years marks the first time Channing and Jenna have played a couple since Step Up, and while it hasn’t been quite that much time, their lives have changed a ton since the last time they shared the silver screen. We get to debut an exclusive photo of the two of them—check it out below, plus the synopsis!
In this ensemble comedy, 10 Years follows a group of friends on the night of their high school reunion who, a decade later, still haven’t quite grown up.
Channing Tatum plays Jake, who is deeply in love with his girlfriend (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) and ready to propose—until he runs into his high school flame (Rosario Dawson) for the first time in years. Jake’s friend Cully (played by funnyman Chris Pratt) married his cheerleader girlfriend (Ari Graynor), and has been looking forward to the reunion so he can finally apologize to all the classmates he bullied in high school. However, after a few too many drinks, the jock-turned-family man ends up reverting back to his old ways instead. Meanwhile, longtime rivals Marty (Justin Long) and A.J (Max Minghella) spend the night picking up right where they left off, vying to impress the hottest girl in class (Lynn Collins). The famous one of the group, Reeves (Oscar Isaac) is now a rock star, but is still too shy to talk to his high school crush (Kate Mara).
Written and directed by Jamie Linden, and produced by Channing Tatum, 10 Years also stars Brian Geraghty, Ron Livingston, Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, Scott Porter, Aaron Yoo and Nick Zano.
I’ve seen the movie, and it’s surprisingly heartfelt and tender, definitely a level above other high school reunion movies. Channing’s attraction to Rosario Dawson’s character makes up a big chunk of the emotional drama, but it was really smart of the producers to cast him and Jenna as a couple. Their genuine affection and deep love for one another grounds the fictional relationship and makes it just as likely that Channing’s character could choose either girl.
Really, I think it’s just fantastic that Channing and Jenna are still so happy. In some ways they come across as newlyweds, having been married for only about three years, but as we’ve sadly learned from folks like Kim Kardashian and her 72-day marriage, in comparison three years makes them wise old married folks. They come across as incredibly grounded, yet they still have fun double dates with George Clooney and Stacy Keibler. Their secret, they revealed in February, is making sure they don’t go too long without seeing each other. ”Our schedules make it a little difficult at times and you have to make sure you have, like a rule,” Jenna said. “We have a like a two week rule. So we see each other every two weeks.”
10 Years comes out September 14th. In the meantime, check out the movie’s Facebook page for trivia on the cast, including old high school photos!
