I know that I’ve written glowingly about all three of 2012′s big superhero movies The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises. But I also get that a lot of people might disagree with my love for these costumed heroes, or might not even care enough to have an opinion either way. Especially here—after all, this site is called Crushable, and I’m the token geek on staff. I recognize that even as geek has become chic, there’s a whole population that still doesn’t get the appeal or even resents the nerds joining the mainstream.
That’s why this video from Single White Females is so great. Rosa Handelman and Phoebe Neidhardt make shorts poking fun at pop culture mainstays like The Babysitter’s Club or Kanye West, and their take on the rise of geekdom this summer is pretty great. It’s set at a support group for people who hate superhero movies, except that Rosa takes it way too far when she starts ranting about everything wrong with The Dark Knight Rises.
Of course, the fact that some of the video plays off the movie’s actual dialogue — like Anne Hathaway‘s impassioned exchange with Christian Bale about duty to the people of Gotham — might rub you the wrong way since you didn’t recognize it off the bat. But that’s why I told you, so you would get the joke without feeling like the geeks were once again laughing without you.
And the best one-liner, at the very end, is about summer’s other big movie. So there!
