It’s amazing to think that just a few weeks ago most Americans didn’t know the name McKayla Maroney. That they didn’t pass around the “McKayla Maroney is not Impressed” meme and use that catch phrase to speak in 3rd person about everything unimpressive.
That’s what you’re eating for dinner. McKayla Maroney is not impressed.
That’s the celebrity you’re going to fall so in love with that you feel totally comfortable sending death threats to any non-fans. McKayla Maroney is not impressed.
That’s your favorite song from Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Nope, McKayla Maroney is not impressed.
Now we know her so well that we feel like she’s our sister, our best friend, our daughter and yes, our savior. Basically she’s what Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were to us in the late ’90s. We worship her as much we fear her. It’s complex, but so are we.
One second we’re watching Olympic gymnasts compete, the next we’re watching Honey Boo Boo and her family go bobbing for raw pigs feet. There’s no understanding how Americans work.
With the exception of obsessing over celebrities who upload make-up free photos to their social media. We love all that, no questions asked. We love that so hard that every time a celebrity does it, a Sephora goes up in flames.
Yesterday, our idol McKayla Maroney uploaded a make-up free photo to instagram with the caption, “Sweat pants, hair tied, chillin with no make up on.. Relaxing day in the village!! #dayoff“ and the world exploded into 1642 “you go girl” comments. Obviously, like every other celebrity who does this, she looks great.
Although I do eagerly await the day that a celeb uploads a make-up free photo that looks like this.
Until then, well done McKayla Maroney. We’re obsessed.
