There’s something about the sight of Oprah that just makes you want to break down and cry. Whether it’s her innate Oprah-ness or some dark magic for which she traded her soul, she just seems to have that effect on people. Hell, I want to cry on Oprah about problems I don’t even have! So it stands to reason that her upcoming interview segment with Rihanna would be full of such magically conjured tears.
In the above promo spot for the segment, Oprah pretends that Rihanna “surprised” her by turning out to be a sensitive person when she knows full well that she reduces every celebrity she meets to a pile of quivering menstrual jelly. “She was very emotional,” she continues. Because you made her be. “She was vulnerable.” To your magic. ”She pushes the edge a lot, and there’s a reason for that.” That’s not grammatical but I don’t even care because I feel a nice, cleansing bit of boo-hooing coming on.
“I hope you’ll join me for a really really get down conversation with Rihanna,” Oprah says, not even trying to hide how pleased she is with her emotional power over people. “It’s good.” There’s no need to be so smug, you scary magic bitch, you know that I’m going to watch every minute of it.
