Liberal Arts, the Josh Radnor and Elizabeth Olsen romantic comedy that stole everyone’s hearts at Sundance, finally released their first trailer for the film. And by released, I mean it showed up this weekend on Youtube as “unlisted” with the comment, “No infringement intended.” Sure, that sounds legit. It also sounds like it will be pulled off the Internet by the time everyone in L.A gets into their offices and realizes that it’s out there, in the wilds of the Internet. So I’d watch it now.
For those of you who don’t obsessively follow film festivals and/or memorize every article we ever post on this site, Liberal Arts is about a 35-year-old guy named Jesse (Josh Radnor) who returns to his hometown and falls in love with a precocious 19-year-old undergrad named Zibby (Elizabeth Olsen). With a name like Zibby and an actor like Josh Radnor, you just know that both characters are going to learn a lot about themselves as well as life in this unofficial Garden State sequel.
And that’s why I’m getting excited to see this movie when it comes out on September 14th. Not only did I love the Garden State soundtrack so much that I once listed it under favorite music on the original Facebook, but I also obsessed over Josh Radnor in HappyThankYouMorePlease, the indie film that he wrote/starred/directed in last year. Considering that he reprised all those roles for this movie as well as grew a beard, I’m pretty sure that I’m going to like it.
If not, I’ll always have the sweet sounds of Iron and Wine to soothe my indie soul.
