Me: Hi Gabby. You don’t know me. Which is weird because I’ve been tweeting at you a lot. A LOT. Also I stalked your baby album. So you should probably know me for restraining order reasons. But that’s neither here nor there. Today is about you! (And not about me idolizing you.) Congratulations on winning your second gold medal in the 2012 Olympics! That’s pretty amazing and also pretty historical. You’re the first African-American woman to win the women’s all-around title.
Me:Â Winning the Olympics. That’s so super and so awesome. One time I won a Simon Says contest in day camp and I got a trophy. Sure it was cheap and sure it broke in the car ride home, but I still kept the pieces. Â Man, it felt good! So I can only imagine how you’re feeling right now. You must feel amazing, you feel amazing, right?!
Me: Gabrielle Douglas, Olympic winner, two-time gold medalist, what would you say to all the Americans back home who have been living vicariously through you for the past week? The Americans who have watched you perform and learned things, like what it means to stick and why you’re called the flying squirrel. What would you say to them.
Me: I completely agree! You couldn’t be more right! You’re an Olympic gymnast and an Olympic speaker. God, I’m rambling. I’m so nervous. Just kidding, I’m relaxed. Meeting you isn’t nerve wracking at all. Just kidding it’s very nerve wracking. Now, tell me, before I keep on talking, what’s the secret to winning a gold medal at the Olympics?
Me: You know what, I was going to guess that. But when you put it like that, in that way, I was like whoa. As always, you nailed it! Now, I have more of a sensitive question. Is that okay? I hope so. What do you think of the fact that former Olympian champ Dominique Moceanu has a legless sister who’s also a gymnast?
Me: I completely agree, it’s crazy! But pretty inspiring! Can’t wait to read her book that talks all about the scandal. On that note, do you read? Are you into book clubs? Do you want to hang out in America and start a Gymnastics book club? Just like, tell me, how you envision our relationship going, once you get back to the US?
Me: Wow, Gabby, you have no idea how much that means to me. Especially since I’ve been feeling the same way. Now, one last thing, before you go off and celebrate your historic win. Which Olympian do you think is the hottest?
Me: I lied, I actually have another question. What would you say to all the people who are going to yell at me for posting Olympic spoilers?
