Last night the US Women’s Gymnastics Team took home the gold medal for their phenomenal performances. While I’m now obsessed with all of them — Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross, Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney –in an unhealthy way, I have an extra special soft spot for Gabby Douglas.
Maybe it’s her winning smile or maybe it’s her tear-jerking story about being raised by Natalie Hawkins, her single mom and Arielle Hawkins, her encouraging older sister. Whatever it is, I can’t get enough of the 16-year-old gymnast who’s sure to go home with a few more medals before the Olympics are over.
(I think, I still don’t really understand how these competitions work. All I know is that they’re bodies are capable of doing things that I didn’t know were humanly possible.)
And that’s why I spent time last night googling her, finding these childhood photos on NBC’s official Olympic site and staring at them. She’s so precious and so adorable that I want to go back in time and babysit her. Weird? Totally. But just look at that face!
