I read Life of Pi by Yann Martel in two days. I figured if Pi could survive in the open waters alone with a savage animal, I could sacrifice a few social obligations and spend the entire weekend reading. I loved it. I loved it so much that I started reading it again as soon as I finished it. I have an addictive personality like that. Once I like a person/place/thing, I get attached quickly.
That’s why I’m so incredibly psyched for this movie to come out on November 21. While this trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it clearly shows us that this will be an epic and moving interpretation of the novel, from director Ang Lee, about a man trapped on a small lifeboat with a wild animal after the ship he’s traveling on sinks.
Newcomer Suraj Sharma plays Pi Patel, the main character, and for most parts of the story, the only character. And Shere Khan plays the tiger. I’m guessing, he’s weirdly not given any credits on IMDB, so I can’t confirm that.
Regardless, read the book now if you haven’t so you can be ready to watch the movie this fall. It will be the stuffing on the cinematic turkey of the season. (I apologize if that makes no sense.)
