I always figured that Heidi Klum was one of those low-maintenance celebrity parents, partly because of the circumstances of how she and Seal first got together: She was pregnant with another man’s child at the time, yet Seal raised her daughter Leni as his own along with their three biological children Henry, Johan, and Lou. But a recent quote from Heidi about her kids’ style has me puzzled; I can’t tell if she’s teasing or dead serious. She told reporters on a conference call,
“We have a rule in the house. Rule No. 1 is always to look cool, and rule No. 2 is don’t forget about rule No. 1. We have other rules… but the No. 1 rule is to always look cool.
“Henry changes clothes 10 times a day and he wants to be very cool. I mean, he would wear a T-shirt and then he will wear a tie just around his neck, knotted, and then a belt over the shirt.
“He [has] very unusual ways of dressing where I’m like, ‘Really? You want to put the belt over your T-shirt and the tie around your neck?’ And he’s like, ‘Yes, mom. I’m cool.’”
That sound you hear is the $1,000 gauntlet, and everyone drawing in their breath waiting for a response from the A-list celebrity children. Will this be what it takes to shake Suri Cruise out of her post-divorce funk? After all, she was spotted wearing flip-flops yesterday. She’s gotta get back in those high heels and show Heidi that it’s not just the offspring of a supermodel and singer who can rock daring outfits. Needless to say, she’ll be joined by Shiloh Jolie-Pitt in her Ellen DeGeneres style; and where’s Blue Ivy? We were so distracted by the first full shot of her face yesterday that we forgot to check if she’s wearing designer clothes. But with a mom like Beyonce, do you even need to ask? It’ll be like the Sharks and the Jets, only with better costumes.
And what do you know, already one celebrity baby has risen to Heidi’s challenge: Little Aleph Millepied was snapped wearing rock’n'roll pajamas while out with mom Natalie Portman. Snap snap.
