Last night on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Conan invited his buddy Nick Offerman on to read tweets from young female celebrities while operating power tools. And it was good.
Perhaps exploiting the way many people conflate him with his Parks and Recreation character Ron Swanson, Nick Offerman did a bit of woodworking (which he actually does!) while reciting tweets from Taylor Swift, Ashley Tisdale, Rebecca Black, and others. The humor, of course, came from the vast, vast difference between the person saying the words and the person who wrote them.
Is there an argument to be made that this is kind of misogynistic, painting the concerns of young women as inherently inane? Sure. But at the same time, those tweets were not exactly literature. Nonetheless, I propose Nick Offerman balance it out by doing a second edition wherein he reads tweets from young male celebrities, because they can be equally dumb, if not dumber. Might I recommend Chris Brown, Adam Levine, and The Situation for starters?
