To say that this is a mash-up of the trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Dark Knight Rises is kind of misleading. We don’t get to hear Daniel Craig‘s questionable Swedish accent come out of Christian Bale‘s mouth, nor does Anne Hathaway‘s vamping bring to mind Rooney Mara‘s transformation into the sullen Lisbeth Salander. However, big ups to YouTubers Minority Films for setting this The Dark Knight Rises trailer to “Immigrant Song,” because it makes the much-hyped superhero movie suddenly look so much more badass.
Weirdly enough, I am just not that excited for Christopher Nolan‘s conclusion to his Batman trilogy. Part of the problem is that I’ve seen The Dark Knight only once, and it was four years ago when my first love broke up with me. So, my memory of the film is blurred—literally blurred, as I was nonstop crying for all 152 minutes. Plus, as several of my friends have already pointed out, I’m simply starting to hit burnout with superhero blockbusters. The Avengers was everything I could’ve hoped for. The Amazing Spider-Man was definitely necessary.
But this long, hulking Batman movie, with all the pressure to close out the trilogy on a meaningful note? When we’ve seen the shooting photos, read the on-set rumors, and watched so many trailers that we feel like we know most of the plot? It’s just exhausting at this point. That’s why seeing Bane break out of an airplane mid-flight while Zeppelin screeches is so great. It’s like a refreshing jolt of new excitement over this movie. And yes, seeing Anne Hathaway shimmy in her catsuit to the music makes her 50% more convincing as Catwoman.
