If you haven’t had a chance to watch HBO’s Game of Thrones and you want to catch up on all the characters right away, I have a solution for you. This kid has put together an impressive compilation of impressions of a few of the shows characters and it’s actually really effing good! I’m a sucker for an impressions montage anyway, but especially when they’re so spot-on and varied.
His name on YouTube is Steve Love (who knows if that’s his name in real life), and he does a full eight character impressions. If you aren’t caught up on the show, don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers. He does the two main characters first — Ned Stark, Lord of Winterfell, and Robert Baratheon, the king. They both get kind of similar growly voices, but spot on for the actors playing them. Then he moves on to Jon Snow,Ned’s bastard son, whose voice he nails with a much more pouty version of himself and actually a different accent, I think, even to my untrained ear. Then he briefly does the creepy slimy Lord Varys, the conniving Littlefinger, the ancient Grand Maester Pycelle, the loyal knight Ser Devos, and his clear favorite — Ser Jorah Mormont. You can tell it’s his favorite because for most of the characters, Steve sticks to their dialogue in the show, or at least very close to it, but for Jorah Mormont, he seems to enjoy his voice so much that he makes him say other things, up to and including, “I think I’ve got a genital wart, Khaleesi.”
It’s a video that’s definitely worth checking out, even if you haven’t seen the show, but especially if you have. The range of his voices is impressive — we just wish he had a lady counterpart so we could hear impressions of Arya, Catelyn, and Cersei as well!
