We’ve Found James Deen’s Next Project: Chuck Palahniuk’s Twisted Porn-And-Death Book Snuff

James Deen Snuff Chuck Palahniuk porn sex death Mr. 72 Cassie WrightI’m psyched to announce that we’re finally getting another Chuck Palahniuk movie! It’s hard to believe that with such an extensive list of probing, unforgettable novels, the author has seen only two of his books turned into movies: Fight Club and Choke. (Unless you count that death scene from Final Destination 4 that seems to have been directly inspired by Palahniuk’s utterly disturbing short story “Guts.”) And Hollywood chose a doozy to adapt: Snuff, the satirical novel about infamous porn star Cassie Wright, who decides to end her career by setting the world record for number of sex partners in one porn film. (Also, someone possibly dies.)

The book centers on three of the 600 men who have lined up to pay tribute to Cassie — Mr. 600, Mr. 137, and Mr. 72 — as well as her assistant Sheila. As of February 2011, the movie had most of the key players lined up, with Daryl Hannah to play Cassie, Thora Birch as Sheila, and Tom Sizemore stepping in for Mr. 600. Of course, that could’ve changed in the last year; and as far as I know, no one has been cast as one of the younger suitors, Mr. 72.

That’s why I’m going to propose James Deen. I hadn’t heard of him until recently, when he was cast opposite Lindsay Lohan in Bret Easton Ellis‘ upcoming LA-centric film The Canyons. Mr. 72 is one of Snuff‘s four narrators, a kid who’s come to Cassie’s big sendoff not to stick it in her, but to get to know the woman he believes is his mother. Yeah, this is why it’s a Palahniuk book. I don’t quite remember how old the character is supposed to be, but I think that the 26-year-old Deen could easily skew a little older or younger. He’s been in the industry since he was 18, so you imagine he’d appreciate the commentary on porn and Hollywood. And after shooting The Canyons (it starts this week), he’ll be used to darkly funny narratives.

Of course, it’s not like the guy is hurting for work. But I think that he could ride the wave of working with BEE and Lohan, and continue to cross over a little more into mainstream movies.
