This morning while trying to figure out if Julianne Hough had acted in anything besides Footloose and Rock of Ages, I made quite the discovery on her IMDb page: Her first time on a movie set was none other than Hogwarts!
That’s right: Julianne has an uncredited role in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. If you can believe it, she was only 11 at the time, which means she and I are the same age, which means we’re both part of that little niche group of Millennials who actually grew up with the Harry Potter characters. But whereas at 11 I was entertaining fantasies that my frizzy hair might get me cast as Hermione, Julianne was actually palling around with the stars.
There’s the adorable Julianne at left, in one of the movie’s high-energy Quidditch scenes and only feet away from Rupert Grint. What’s interesting is that I feel like I’ve glimpsed this photo before, but adolescent Julianne looks so much like Evanna Lynch (who played Luna Lovegood in the later films) that I initially dismissed it.
Appearing on Live with Kelly recently, Julianne confessed that she was a pretty avid fan of the series and its star. Playing a Gryffindor student, she tried to take a piece of memorabilia home with her: ”I even stole the scarf just to make sure that I had proof that I was Gryffindor, and then they searched my bag and took it back.” What’s more, she was heavily crushing on Daniel Radcliffe and bought him a Valentino Beanie Baby with a love note. Unfortunately, she never got a response—and is now embarrassed ”because sometimes I see him around. I just turn and walk away.”
Just imagine if Daniel had gone for this apple-cheeked blonde! She might never be dating Ryan Seacrest… and maybe Mr. Radcliffe would have followed up his Broadway run in How to Succeed in Business Without Trying with a cameo in Rock of Ages.
