Bloggers are jumping down Kelly Osbourne‘s throat today for a photo she posted last night via Instagram and Twitter. “Kelly Osbourne Posts Scary Bedtime Snap,” says one blog. “Kelly Osbourne hits Twitter with no makeup in unflattering pajama picture,” says another. (I’m not going to link to them.) To listen to these headlines, you’d think Kelly posted a photo of herself looking incredibly ugly.
Imagine my surprise, then, when I clicked through to find the perfectly adorable photo you see here. You’d think these people had never seen a woman without makeup before! And while we’re on the subject of “celebrities without makeup,” Kelly didn’t caption it with a pretentious statement like “I’m so brave.” She captioned it with a factual description of what she was doing at that particular moment:
“Just found my favorite pj’s! Got to be up at 5am for
@e_fashionpolicethank god for my jet lag & comfy bed.”
I guess now that Kelly has lost a ton of weight, people have to come up with other things to pick on her for. It’s possible that people are particularly hard on her because it’s her job to criticize other people’s style, but not even her show Fashion Police criticizes what people look like right before bed. I’m not saying she’s a perfect human being, and I’m not saying she’s never said anything mean herself (ahem, Christina Aguilera), but two wrongs don’t make a right! Personally, I applaud any celebrity who posts un-glamorous photos on Twitter, because it helps counteract the unrealistic standards of beauty that their more well-manicured and Photoshopped photos are all too often used to propagate.
