Carrie Underwood Wins Me Over With Her Statement On Gay Marriage

Jesus, take the wheel. I need to write a blog about Carrie Underwood and her recent statement on gay marriage and it’s not safe to blog enthusiastically and drive at the same time. Also you’re a better driver. Or at least, if you get pulled over you can flash your ID and get away with everything. That’s why I drive with you Jesus. Being friendly with God’s son has its perks. I tell everyone about the fact that I’m allowed to take as many items as I want into the Forever 21 dressing room when I shop with you. They’re all very jealous. It’s like sorry ladies, I spotted him first. He’s mine.

Anyways, back to our gal pal Carrie Underwood. In a weekend article in The Independent  the openly religious country star, known for hit Christian songs like “Jesus Take the Wheel”, stated that she fully supported gay marriage.

“As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love, and want to marry,” she said. “I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”

While many celebrities stand up for gay marriage, it’s somewhat rare to have such a popular country star making these types of statements. They risk losing their largely conservative fan bases by coming out for marriage equality. But Carrie says that it’s her Christian faith that made her want to speak out and say something.

“Our church is gay friendly,” she said. “Above all, God wanted us to love others. It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] ‘everyone has to be like me’. No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It’s not up to me to judge anybody.”

The fact that she’s willing to risk losing her fans in order to stand up for what’s right makes me one of her newest fans. Until now, I’ve remained neutral on her. I don’t love country music or American Idol so I’ve never really cared either way. But seeing that she’s actually a good person who’s not afraid to say what she believes in makes me want to go out and buy all her music.

So even if she loses a few bigoted fans from this statement, she should rest assured that she just gained a lot more.

Very upset that a Christian would take this stance. Bible states marraige is between a man and woman. NO EXCEPTIONS

I agree with tom, Bible states marraige is between a man and woman. NO EXCEPTIONS. Those who are in relations with the same sex will not inherit the kingdom of God period. God is is seeing who is listening to his voice, He said you will know them by their fruit, it also teaches we love one another, which means to treat people how you would like to be treated not to shack up with someone of the same sex because we love them, lets put the love God intended in the right perspective and context. If you say you are a christian and support same sex relations in any capacity how can you say you have a relationship with God if he is against it?

    Jenni,

All I can say is wow. Your first paragraph is quite revealing. Jesus death on the cross and triumphal resurrection is the greatest gift ever extended to you. Following Him with every ounce of your being is the only appropriate response. He’s not your sugar daddy or some genie from a bottle. But if you honestly seek him, bow your knee and completely surrender to Jesus, I believe you will have joy and peace unspeakable. Yes, you may face incredible hardship, but with the knowledge that Jesus is there with you.

Jesus Goldberg? Is that who you’re talking about? We used to sit together at temple. Until I didn’t let him win Coke & Pepsi at my Bat Mitzvah. Then we stopped talking.
