Ian Somerhalder: When Ryan Seacrest brought up the possible casting on his radio show, Ian enthusiastically replied that it would be “a phenomenal opportunity.” Lucy Hale thinks he would be a good choice, as do we—just look at that photo! He’s wearing gray, he’s smirking, done. Except… girlfriend Nina Dobrev doesn’t think he should be Christian, if she were to get cast as Ana. She told MTV News,
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea. I think it’s best for any of the actors on The Vampire Diaries to kind of do their own things… and create new characters. And as much as you try when you shoot a movie, if it’s two of the same people, the fans will always see you as… they’ll see me as Elena and they’ll see him as Damon if we do a film together.”
Good point! Or maybe she would be uncomfortable since they’re together in real life. As steamy as their love scenes on TVD are, there’s a difference between human-on-vampire macking and BDSM.
Ryan Gosling: Strangely, it was Hilary Duff who nominated Ryan to play the enigmatic Mr. Grey, telling Celebuzz, “Personally, I would love if Ryan Gosling would do it, but I know he never would.”
The thing is, I think it would be a travesty for Ryan to try and keep up with the mercurial character of Christian Grey. Not because Christian is at all nuanced, but because he has no discernable emotional arc (from the 400 pages I’ve read so far, at least) and keeps changing his tune. Even when he was paying his dues in indie films, Ryan never played characters this uneven.

Alexander Skarsgård: While Ian Somerhalder is still my favorite for looks, Alexander certainly has the attitude down: He told Access Hollywood, ”Sign me up… He’s got a sex chamber? My character has that on True Blood. He’s got his little dungeon. I was born to play that part.” Then again, he just came off Battleship, so maybe he’s developed a taste for satire.

Chris Pine: Ehh, I think Chris needs a couple years of playing looser, funnier characters. It’s difficult to imagine him as the restrained, arrogant Christian. He’s also in the “polite interest” category, telling media outlets, “It’d be a hell of a choice for me, I think. It sounds like an interesting film.” Maybe we should just let him stick to Star Trek 2. His co-star Alice Eve is a big fan of the books, so he’ll get to at least remain updated on Christian and Ana’s sexcapades.

Like I said, these are the casting rumors that have at least a shred of legitimacy to them. But I’m opening up the comments for people to share their dream casts! Honestly, who here would be surprised if it were two unknowns?
