It’s So Cute That Joe Jonas Thinks He’s Better Than One Direction

Update: Two Jonas Brothers fans respond to this post here and here

Back in the 2000s, the Jonas Brothers ruled the playlists of Limited Too stores across the country. Tween girls everywhere bought bras 6 sizes too large just to send to them with sweet promises of letting Kevin, Joe and Nick be their first kiss. But now the Jo Bros, as they’re known by bloggers trying to sound hip and with it, moved onto bigger and better projects like hosting the Miss USA Pageant, performing on Broadway and getting married in order to lose their virginity.

While the boys left the tween spotlight to go sow their wild oats, One Direction moved in and they moved in hard. One day I didn’t know who they were and they next day I was joining in on the Twitter attacks against Liam Payne’s girlfriend.

Before you could even say, “are they even legal,” I cut my hair to match Harry Styles and I tattooed Niall Horan’s face over my heart. I’m a woman possessed when it comes to this slightly legal British boy band and I pride myself on knowing all their names. Something that not every 25-year-old can do. (Or possibly should do. Or brag about. Or put in writing and publish.)

Before Joe Jonas could even get a hand job from one last fan, his time in the sun ended. No one remembered who he was or what songs he sang or that he was once more famous than the Lawrence brothers. So he decided to do what all desperate celebrities do in their time of need, pretend like they’re better than the people who took their place.

It’s pulling the old “oh, being a famous tween idol is sooo yesterday. It’s so much easier to live in a world where 12-year-olds aren’t throwing themselves at you” schtick.

Yesterday Joe Jonas pulled this very card when Ryan Seacrest interviewed him for On Air With Ryan Seacrest and asked about One Direction’s attempt to keep their relationships secret.

“I think they definitely want people to think they’re single. I mean, I’ve been through it you know, and I get it and I understand that it’s important.” Joe continued, ”I can always tell if they do have a girlfriend or if they don’t. If they’re like, ‘Oh, I’d rather not talk about it…’ Or they’re like, ‘I like to keep my personal life to myself,’ it’s like, ‘Buddy, your personal life is all over everywhere, what are you talking about?’”

While it’s downright charming that Joe Jonas thinks he “gets” One Direction, I think we all know he doesn’t. When was the last time someone made a 500-GIF tumblr post for him. Or even started a Twitter trend dedicated to take down his girlfriend.

The Jonas Brothers definitely had their moment of fame, but I think we all know it’s nothing compared to what One Direction’s experiencing right now. They’ve entered the Bieber-sphere of fan worship and Joe Jonas can’t even begin to understand what they’re going through. So while it’s super cute that he’s trying to name drop them in an attempt to stay relevant around 7th grade lunch tables, it’s also somewhat pointless.  So why doesn’t he just do what the rest of us are doing and just play “What Makes You Beautiful” on repeat all day?

Wow, you must have really done your research for this one…were you even born in the 2000s?

Hope you know you just embarrassed yourself big time.

    • Jessica

I think you’ve forgotten how famous the Jonas Brothers actually were……..they aren’t as huge anymore but that doesn’t undercut the fact that they had their moment of fame and were just as big as these guys. Maybe you weren’t old enough to experience the severity of their fame……but I can assure you they were much bigger than you seem to think. Do me a favor…go type Nick Jonas in on tumblr and see what comes up. Maybe do your research next time.

I think you need to check your facts before publishing things. I support both bands, and everything don’t get me wrong. And like you, “What Makes You Beautiful” is on repeat daily (I have my own dance moves, but that’s not important right now). I still have love for the Jonas Brothers though (a substantial, overwhelming, brother-in-law-buys-you-a-cardboard-cutout love). 1. People still make GIFs of Joe and his brothers on Tumblr all the time and 2. There have been whole Twitters dedicated to wanting to kill Jonas girlfriends (i.e. there was one that wanted to kill Ashley Greene or something). Sure, what the boys of 1D are facing may be on a much bigger scale, but after the few thousand girls are screaming at you, it doesn’t make much of a difference how many more you add. It’s loud. Even though the Jonas Brothers haven’t put out any music for a while doesn’t mean they still don’t carry a huge fanbase. They’re working on music and it’ll be out shortly (hopefully). All I have to say is there is room in my heart for both bands (heck, the more boy bands, the better in my mind).

Childish post. Why so defensive? And obviously you are ignorant about Jonas Brothers. Talent wise, Jobros are miles away from One Direction. Just telling the truth (well at least for me) For the record, I don’t hate 1D. Stay Classy :)

why can’t we be just JONAS DIRECTIONERS?

    • Emily

What’s somewhat pointless is you posting this crap about the Jonas Brothers growing up to get noticed. The youngest of the band will be 20 this September and you’re trying to tell me that Kevin got married to lose his virginity? You are ridiculous to even say Joe doesn’t know what One Direction is going through. JB wasn’t only popular with 12 yr olds in Ltd. Too stores. Get over yourself.

Another thing that’s wrong with this article is that there are a bunch of GIFs all over tumblr and TTs on twitter. You just don’t follow the right people and probably are too old to know how to work twitter.

Also, Joe has met One Direction and isn’t a jerk towards them. He is supportive of them. Only some low life immature adult would try to say Joe was thinking he’s better than them. You only want attention and more hits. I think every fan of both groups agrees with me on this one.

You are almost as lame as the girl on OceanUP who said Joe was a jerk towards her and her friends at a club. Get a life.

A negative comment isn’t even neccessary when almost everyone else is giving them to you. I’m just going to say, “Wow! The Jonas Brothers are amazing and so are 1D.”

    • Soph

I think it’s pretty hilarious that the writer says she’s 25, yet she’s obsessing over a group of teenagers, and dedicated an entire article dissing a teen sensation. The Jonas Brothers were just as big as 1D, FYI, probably even more successful in album sales during their heyday. Both groups have had their time to shine, so why not just let them be?

      • Sarah

Well,i heard harry 1D once slept with 40 sumthing woman.Maybe he dont mind sticking with 25? Its really huge possibility for them both

    • Beverly

You’re probably the only fan( if that’s what you really are) on this PLANET who’s trying to compare two equally talented boy bands and who’s creating a divide between dedicated fans who love the JB and 1D unconditionally. You’re honestly unappreciative, cynical and lack the right facts about the JB. Someone has to be seriously bored or full of herself to come up with such rubbish.

      Oh and one more thing…

the JB will NEVER become obsolete :D

    • Amanda

This article is completely bias, for starters. I don’t understand how you can undermine the success of the Jonas Brothers. Everything that Justin Bieber has done and One Direction has done I literally watched the Jonas Brothers do. I sit and watch interviews that have the exact same questions. “We haven’t seen this many screaming girls since the Beatles.” Funny, because you said that about the Jonas’, Bieber, and One Direction. It literally happens again, and again. Same fans, same interviews, and the same concert movies. And soon, some other heartthrob(s) will be among us. Bottom line, fame like this comes and go.

This is what being a true Jonas Brothers fan is all about!

I just had to tell you a couple of things…
maybe it’s true that right now 1D is more known that the Jonas Brothers, but it doesn’t mean AT ALL that they’re better. The talent is not compared to how many TT thay have a day. The talent is when you inspire millions of people with a song, when you sing on stage and everyone stands and claps, even if they are not fans. The Jonas Brothers have been though a lot since they started becoming famous because they were from Disney. I don’t get why people hate them just because of this.
I want to see what directioners do if your loved guys split up for two years and you don’t have any more pictures, songs, or videos of them together. I’m sure you’d forget about them in a couple days and you’d move on to some new cute guy that thinks he can sing.
JONAS FANS ARE HERE FOREVER, and no, nobody forgot the Jonas Brothers, at last true fans (yes, what you’ll never be) didn’t.
So, haters, sit down and wait till Jonas Family give a fuck.

I find this article very halarious. For a 25 year old to write this, you would think that a teenager did. Obviously your bias opinions show throughout this whole entire article. Twisting & minipulating words with out any facts behind it & you call yourself a publicist? Im sorry but thats very funny! It just shows how immature you are & I refuse to respect someone who tries to make good, kind-hearted people like Joe & his brothers something they are not. Not only do you embarrass yourself, you also embarrass 1D fans & most importantly the company you work for. I suggest you start writing the truth instead of writing foolish words.

    • Kelly

Wow! Stumbled upon this article and read it out of curiosity. Not a particular fan of the Jonas Brothers or One Direction (apart from a couple of songs from both groups), but I gotta say, for a 25 year old (I’m 25 too) to write such an article is pretty embarrassing. You would think it was a 15 year old! Don’t really know what to think of this, it’s laughable really…

    • Emma

      wow. i am speechless.
jeez, your’e 25 not 15 and i’m 14 year old Jonatic and i would never write that about one direction. and Joe never said that he is better than one direction. i mean serious what’s wrong with you.
      go get a live

      • hilal

i agree. as a 16 year-old Jonatic, Jonas Brothers always been number one and always will be. 1D or justin bieber… they’re worthless

    • Lana

The Jonas Brothers have fine music, but One Direction is an icon. They aren’t even in the same ballpark. Not even close.

      • lana

Oops, sorry. I meant, One Direction has fine music, but the Jonas Brothers is an icon. They aren’t even in the same ballpark. Not even close.

    • hdhdhdhd

I’m guessing no one here understands sarcasm. The author is trying to show boy bands come and go and One Direction will be replaced in a few years time by another band. And she is intentionally sounding like a 15 year old to mimic all the fans of these bands…
