After weeks of touch-and-go rumors about Robert Pattinson playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, the Twilight star spoke out about the alleged casting decision while promoting Cosmopolis at Cannes.
With bated breath, the entire world stood silent as the former vampire finally found his courage to address Finnick-Gate 2012. After all, I think we all know this casting decision would not only change the entire tone of Catching Fire, but also make a strong statement about how many tween franchises one teen heartthrob could star in before hitting the ripe old age of 30.
If R.Patz played Finnick in this movie, it opened the door for actors like Daniel Radcliffe to play Christian Grey in The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. That’s an extremely dangerous precedent to set in this day and age of film making.
And luckily for all those fans out there who proudly proclaimed they would murder someone if Robert Pattinson landed this coveted role, he announced that’s he not even being considered for the part.
Let that sink in for all the would-be-murderers out there. Â Robert Pattinson will not play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire.
USA TODAYÂ reports that the star woke up the other day to all all these rumors and naturally called his agent to find out what was up with the movie.
“I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games,” Pattinson tells USA TODAY. “I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent.”
“My agent was like, ‘No,’ ” Pattinson reports.
“(My agent) was like no one’s going to offer you that part,” Pattinson says, breaking into a laugh. “I was like, thanks for the reassurance.”
So not only is Robert Pattinson admitting that he’s not getting/taking the role, but he’s also letting us know that his agent thinks the entire idea of him playing Finnick’s also a joke. Sure, the guy’s welcome to star in other films like Cosmopolis, but even his agent draws the line of starring in another epic franchise.
Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s get back to discussing if Jennifer Lawrence looked too healthy to play Katniss Everdeen. Just kidding. That’s a joke. A little early morning Hunger Games humor for the crazy fanatic inside all of us.
