Our favorite eyelinered American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert premiered his music video for “Never Close Our Eyes”  today. The catchy dance song (that’s now stuck in my head) gets a bleak twist in this music video that might actually utilize 50 shades of grey, as well as two shades of  blue. This interpretation of the song  provides us with a super deep reflection on the many shades of grey that exist in a black-and-white music video.
The usually flashy Lambert gets dark in this message about never closing your eyes. Ever. Even if you’re tired or you need to blink or possibly wink. JUST KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN! While I originally assumed the song’s about a wild night out that no one wants to end, it’s actually about a mental asylum.
Looking back, duh! Everyone knows you can’t ever close your eyes in a mental asylum. Especially one that lets women wear mock turtlenecks. If they’re pulling that dress code shit there, you can’t even begin to think about what happens if you fall asleep. You could wake up in overalls — or wose, JNCOS.
In one scene that brilliantly captures the dancing talent of Center Stage and the cleaning prowess of the Annie orphans, Adam inspires the patient-prisoners to escape. While it’s unclear if they make it past the gates, the video concludes with an epic techno-rave dance party in color. COLOR! They conquered all 50 shades of grey! Even heather grey.
I’ll be shocked, floored and dismayed if this doesn’t make the casting department at Fifty Shades of Grey choose Adam to play Christian Grey. It’s everything a music video should be — and more. Because Adam Lambert applies make-up better than any women I know.
