Previously I wrote on Crushable about the incredible mistake Catching Fire would make by casting the vampireific Robert Pattinson as Finnick Odair in the sequel to The Hunger Games. And now that the rumors are making the rounds again, I feel obligated to restate my case. Because now, weeks later, I have an even stronger case when it comes to not casting Pattinson as the heroic Finnick.
What’s strengthened my case? Besides Twihards on the original post telling me I would be lucky to have Robert Pattinson join The Hunger Games franchise. Well, the fact that within hours of this rumors starting, the Twitter hashtag #PattinsonIsNotFinnick started trending. Talk about a District 13 style uprising!
Fans are not having this kind of talk  floating around their franchise and they’re taking to social media to make sure Lionsgate hears them loud and clear. And tell you what, I bet Lionsgate will hear them loud and clear — and will listen. Why would they alienate their key audience by casting someone so clearly unwanted? Like I said, it would be incredibly stupid to make this mistake.
Everyone has their own image of the dreamy Finnick in their heads and I really doubt anyone’s picturing the brooding Robert Pattinson. Okay, maybe some people. But not enough to justify throwing him in the film. If they do that, they might as well cast Ryan Gosling as another tribute and call it a New Year’s Eve ensemble film
The Hunger Games franchise can stand on its own and it doesn’t need a tween superstar like Pattinson to propel it to box office success. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson handled that all by themselves the first time around and I think they’re fully prepared to do it again.
So let’s put this rumor to rest and move on to actually casting the right actor as Finnick.
