I always figured that Seth Grahame-Smith‘s novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was entirely tongue-in-cheek, but it looks as if the movie adaptation is a lot more serious. How do we know that? Because the red-band trailer is out today, and it’s packed with intense, gory scenes of a young Honest Abe (Benjamin Walker) tearing into the undead and ripping their heads off. Also, there’s a lot of him and Dominic Cooper grimly murmuring about vampires in general.
Aside from the future President’s trusty axe, we see more of his arsenal: Whips, knives, guns, and maybe projectiles? Plus, it’s not only the guys who get to have fun: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as Mary Todd Lincoln, levels a rifle at someone on the battlefield with just a hint of the Ramona Flowers grin we recognize from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
This movie looks like it’s gonna try and challenge HBO’s True Blood for blood spilt on-screen. And oh shit, is that Rufus Sewell as the lead vampire? Awesome.
