We Could Totally Get Behind This ‘The Avengers: United Kingdom’ Poster

The Avengers United Kingdom poster Benedict Cumberbatch Daniel Radcliffe Matt Smith

One quibble that a friend pointed out about The Avengers is that it was so American-centric. Consider that Loki opened up a portal above most of North America, and yet the damage was concentrated to Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Seems a bit fishy, right? That’s why I love this poster of a different kind of Avengers team—a bunch of daring chaps from across the pond, each with their own mettle and magic that could ward off interstellar villains.

You’ve got Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and the Doctor (Matt Smith, natch) poised to travel through space and the wizarding world in order to defend their friends and family… but just as Joss Whedon‘s film utilized non-superpowered assassins like Black Widow and Hawkeye, joining this team is James Bond (Daniel Craig) with his brawn and Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) on hand when the situation calls for some deduction skills.

The only one I didn’t recognize is Gene Hunt—honestly, I thought it was Anthony Stewart Head, a.k.a. Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Can we swap him out in the sequel?

Of course, such a team would have to be assembled by an aging John Steed (Patrick Macnee) – by now the head of the mysterious British Intelligence Service – with the assistance of Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) and possible appearances of Purdey (Joanna Lumley) and others in scenes at their headquarters – because the UK has always had “Avengers” to deal with strange threats …
