So here I am trying to find some posts to round out my Friday, since celebrity news rarely breaks around this time, and the pickings are slim. Until… I stumble across this new video from rapper Lil B, wherein he drops rhymes about how to get through the long, lonely nights, rapping over “the realest song ever made.” Did I mention that that song is “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE.
As far as I can tell, “3 Stacks” is an inspirational rap about always reaching for the top, a gift from Lil B to his listeners to remember that everything is possible no matter where you come from. And he wouldn’t lie to you, because the soaring saxophone of the Titanic theme hold him to telling the truth:
You gotta put out the real, man, especially for the people you fuck with.
And yes, I’m pretty sure that was a compliment. I’m just bummed that he didn’t actually sample Celine Dion‘s voice—she makes that song. It’s like when I went to see Titanic 3D in theaters, but throughout the whole movie they only played the instrumental “My Heart Will Go On” (plus the score), and it wasn’t until three-and-a-half hours later that Celine’s sweet croon finally appeared over the credits, and by then it was 1:45 a.m. and I was sobbing too hard to care.
Anyway. Lil B. My friend tells me there’s all this controversy over whether this 22-year-old rapper is any good, but I think this song makes it clear that he has fantastic taste in music.
