Is anyone else kind of nostalgic for the days when you eagerly awaited the People magazine cover with the exclusive first photos of a celebrity child? Then you can say you know where you were when you first saw Shiloh Jolie-Pitt or Suri Cruise: Gawking at magazines in the grocery store checkout line, most likely.
But now more and more celebrities are snapping photos and immediately uploading them to their Twitters. It was kind of a slap in the face when Beyoncé and Jay-Z debuted the first photo of Blue Ivy on their website, but with Hilary Duff and Bruce Willis joining the fray it’s kind of jarring.
Bruce’s wife Emma Heming-Willis posted this admittedly adorable twitpic of Bruce and five-week-old Mabel with this caption: A beautiful day in Budapest with the loves of my life. Daddy and Mabel cracking each other up. And yeah, it’s really precious. Bruce seems really enamored of his new daughter, and something tells me Mabel might have a chance of competing with little Luca Cruz Comrie for Cutest Newborn.
But it’s also not what we expect from celebrities! Who imagined, when Twitter was first created, that these beautiful creatures so removed from us in terms of privilege, wealth, and perspective would flock to the social media site to play out their messy romantic dramas or brag about their newborns? It’s almost like… they’re normal people.
So which stars will be the next to add their babies to the Twitter Celebrity Photo Album of 2012? Probably Jessica Simpson and little Maxwell, since she’s not likely to get a lot of money for professional photos. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vanessa Minnillo did the same, but I’m split on Kourtney Kardashian. Her mother Kris Jenner would probably advise her daughter to get as much cash as she could for the newest Kardashian female, but Kourt (like her sisters) does so love chronicling her life in real-time.
One more look at Bruce and Mabel. Aww.
