Fast Six has just the coolest casting news today: According to Digital Spy, Luke Evans (Immortals), Rihanna (Battleship), and David Tennant (Doctor Who) are all reportedly in talks to star in the latest movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise. (And don’t forget, we actually loved Fast Five as a car-chase thriller with unintentional homoerotic tension.)
The three are still in talks, with Luke being offered the villain role and Rihanna and David’s parts unclear. They’d be joining franchise regulars Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, and relative newbies Dwayne Johnson (after killing it in Fast Five) and Gina Carano. That’s right, the MMA-star-turned-Haywire-actress is apparently already locked in when I thought she was still negotiating… so this movie is guaranteed to have some great fight scenes.
I’m not sure what Rihanna would bring as the latest female in the mix. All we’ve seen of her so far in Battleship is her saying “boom” right before the big guns go off. But with Jordana and Gina, RiRi really doesn’t have to do much. Of the three rumored cast members, I’m most curious about how David Tennant would fit into a modern-day Robin Hood story of car thieves. Then again, he played brilliantly against type as a Criss Angel-type Vegas magician in Fright Night, so I fully trust his ability to choose a cool, nontraditional role.
Fast Six starts shooting this June and is set for a release date of May 24, 2013.
