The Casey Anthony Lifetime movie is finally happening, you guys! It’s aptly named Prosecuting Casey Anthony, and said prosecution will be carried out by everyone’s favorite TV buddy, Rob Lowe.
The TV movie will be based on prosecutor Jeff Ashton‘s first-person book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony, which makes Rob Lowe the star! According to Entertainment Weekly, the film “will examine what the prosecution got right, what they got wrong and why Ashton remains convinced of Casey Anthony’s guilt.” Casey Anthony has yet to be cast, but judging from that description, they’re probably not looking for a very sympathetic or nuanced portrayal. Perhaps they should cast Tara Reid?
Question: with Rob Lowe currently best known as the uber-smiley Chris Traeger on Parks and Recreation, will he be able to summon the right amount of gravitas for this role? Lifetime’s Executive VP of Programming Rob Sharenow says of course:
“We’re thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson [in Drew Peterson: Untouchable]. He’s one of those rare stars who can do it all, comedy, drama, heroes and villains. There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range.”
What with the luridness of the subject, and the storied acting abilities of Rob Lowe, this is literally going to be the best Lifetime made-for-TV movie of all time.
