A Chinese zookeeper named Zhang Bangsheng has attracted much astonished attention today for an article detailing the lengths to which he’ll go to care for a rare Francois leaf monkey. According to chinaSMACK.com‘s translation of a Chinese news article, he personally licked the monkey’s anus in an effort to help it defecate a potentially life-threatening peanut someone had given it:
50-year-old Zhang Bangsheng used warm water to clean a small Francois’ Leaf Monkey’s buttocks, then began using his mouth to lick it, not stopping for over an hour, until the little monkey defecated a single peanut. Only after the peanut was defecated did Zhang Bangsheng laugh with satisfaction.
The best part of this has got to be the laugh at the end, because how insane do you have to be to gain any kind of “satisfaction” from such an act? Then again, if I was the person tasked with licking a rare monkey’s butt, I’d probably be satisfied the ordeal wasn’t all for naught, too. Just look at the smile on his face!
The second best part might be the comments, which are translated from Chinese and include:
Other than licking, was there no other way? A good deed that makes people uncomfortable.
If the person who fed it [the peanut] is discovered, punish him to lick the monkey’s butt.
Hubei people do have heavy/strong tastes, ｔｈｉｓ isn’t me being discriminatory.
Personally, I’d be wary, as this type of degradation seems like the first step towards a nightmarish, Planet Of The Apes type scenario. If we’re not careful, we’ll all be licking monkeys’ butts someday.
