No one’s actually said that Married to Jonas, the new E! reality show starring The Married Jonas Brother — I mean, Kevin Jonas – and his wife Danielle Deleasa is trying to face off against The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
And yet, you have to wonder why much-maligned oldest-child Kevin, with all his money from the Jonas Brothers, chose to live in New Jersey, of all places. Especially since the premise is all about Dani “marrying into pop royalty.” We wouldn’t put it quite that way, but it’s clear that she’ll be the Everywoman to Kevin’s semi-retired pop star:
“Danielle is living a true Cinderella story after marrying into pop royalty, partnering in Kevinâs larger-than-life career and becoming a âJonas,â a name synonymous with hit music and a worldwide fan base,â said Lisa Berger, president of entertainment programming for E!. âThe series presents a unique look at a young couple and their families from two entirely different worlds, one small town and one dealing with international fame, coming together as one and starting a whole new life together.â
Married to Jonas is described as a “docu-soap” that will chronicle the couple’s lives as they learn to adjust to each other’s big, demanding families: Kevin being part of Dani’s boisterous Italian clan, and Dani learning to submit to the JoBros’ matriarch Denise when it comes to tour dates and new albums. What’s interesting, however, is that the producers waited almost three years after Kevin married Danielle (in 2009) to get this show on-air. So even though it’s about adjusting to your new lives, it’s not as if we have to watch the growing pains of their young marriage.
Since Ryan Seacrest is helming this newest reality venture to line the pockets of his fabulous suits, I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to go with the same formula that worked for Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom, who married in 2009 but didn’t start their reality show until 2011. Of the Jonas acquisition, Ryan told EW,
âI vividly recall believing from the very first time that I met them that the Jonas Brothers would, without a doubt, become a worldwide cultural sensation. When we learned that Dani married Kevin, our production team became curious about what life would be like for a young bride entering the excitement, and sometimes chaos, of a pop starâs life. Looking through the lens of young love, the show will examine the ups and downs of Dani and Kevinâs marriage, against the backdrop of their contrasting family cultures, traditions and individual careers.â
After all, no one wanted a repeat of Britney & Kevin: Chaotic. Furthering the “Ryan Seacrest vs. Andy Cohen” argument, it’s interesting to note that Married to Jonas will premiere on E! on August at 10 p.m. EST–the same timeslot as RHONJ… and Game of Thrones… and Mad Men… and Girls. Really, guys, you might have chosen a less ambitious night.
