As much as we love our single-serving Tumblrs angling for a book deal, we miss seeing blogs constructed simply because that person had a subject that s/he truly loved. That’s why we love Allen Fuqua‘s Movie Mimic blog, where he combines his love of cinema and traveling around the world: Whether he’s in Japan or Illinois, Allen photographs himself at famous high schools and temples as featured in beloved movies.
At first I thought that he was just approximating scenes from Lost in Translation and such, but if you look closely you realize that Allen has tracked down the cafes and even specific tables where scenes were shot. Plus, he’s not a snob about what qualifies a movie for his homage: His blog runs the gamut from anime to 10 Things I Hate About You, as you see above. His photographers, too, range from professionals to strangers he meets on his travels; he recently tweeted, If I do a mimic near you, I’d love to have you join!
So Allen, if you ever want to recreate a Woody Allen film or something recent like Shame, you should look Crushable up! We’d gladly take time out of the work day for some movie mimicking.
