I’m really surprised that the plot of High School has not found its way into an R-rated teen movie yet: Valedictorian gets high with the local stoner to blow off steam, they find out their school is instituting drug tests, they scheme to get the entire student body high so no one will get expelled/lose their college acceptances.
This raunchy comedy has been kicking around since 2009, but only now that the redband trailer has been released do we get a real sense for the kind of humor and drug-related hijinks that will occur when the movie comes out on June 1st. Although 21 Jump Street currently occupies my spot of “utterly hilarious and dirty-minded high school movie,” I’m willing to give High School a try because of one amazing cameo: Adrien Brody.
We’ve seen photos of Adrien all tattooed and dreadlocked as drug dealer Psycho Ed for the past three years, but this trailer showcases him so much more. Psycho Ed is the guy the boys go to to get some super-special weed to sneak into the bake sale’s brownies, and he is paranoid as all get-out: He threatens them with bodily harm, sics his vicious little dog on them, and even follows them to the school. It’s exciting to see the Oscar winner play around with such a deranged, random role. He was one of the best parts of the bad Predators sequel, so he knows how to have some fun on-screen.
Other notable faces in the movie include Colin Hanks and a nearly unrecognizable Michael Chiklis as the uptight administrators. Obviously, they get high, too.
